I think the highlight of our trip for a few was the stop by the National Museum of American History.
Housing more than 3,000 artifacts, this collection definitely had something of interest to everyone in our family!
Stopping to look for directions one more time!….
C-3PO’s Costume from Return of the Jedi
First time clock
Great collection of old cameras
Emma particularly enjoyed the children’s area dedicated to inspiring invention (Toying with Invention). This is a balance table-
Unfortunately for her, Jon was on the other side….and that boy can stack fast!
Ben, Jessa, Timothy and Matthew enjoyed this display…they hooked up a series of tubes to create their own wind spinner.
This exhibit was the history of inventions related to children.
Joshua learning to windsurf!
One of my favorite displays…these instruments are part of a larger collection, and are taken out and played from time to time by the Smithsonian Chamber Music Society.
Can you guess who owned this hat??
Abe Lincoln’s writing desk
Abe Lincoln’s pocket watch
One happy girl…she loves these slippers and has a pair of her own!
Dorothy’s slippers from The Wizard of Oz
We also got to see the original “star spangled banner” that inspired Francis Scott Key’s famous song, “The Star Spangled Banner”. It was HUGE! They wouldn’t allow photography in that section, which is a bummer, because it is truly breathtaking to see. I had no idea it was as big as it was!
I hope you enjoyed seeing highlights from our trip! I am sorry it has taken so long to post them!
